The purpose of the project was to design a solution for sorting and delivering mail in the front compartment of the electric vehicle EVIG that is developed by the company Clean Motion. An important aspect of the project was that the user, in this case the mailmen, should be accommodated by creating a concept that is both sustainable and ergonomic as well as provides space for large volumes of mail and letters. To accomplish this objective, design methodology was used. Starting with carrying out research about the vehicle, the mail delivering system in today's vehicles and patents on mail sorting solutions. To collect data from the users, interviews were carried out with mailmen and surveys were sent out to a postal company. The collected data was then analysed with different user studies methods. This resulted in a list of requirements which laid the foundation for the conceptualization phase. The output was a finished idea of what the final concept would look like. This resulted in a concept consisting of nine components that together help make the mail delivering experience as smooth as possible for the user. First of all, the interior concept of the front compartment consists of a shelf with storage for standardized mailboxes. Furthermore, a storage box for mails in the front of the mailman in order to get an overview of the letters. A dedicated storage space for packages was also developed. A GPS holder was included for easier navigation in the postman's profession. For the convenience of the user, two cup holders and one box for work equipment was placed on the dashboard of the vehicle. In addition, the final concept consists of a lamp directly aimed at the front mail rack to facilitate work in the dark. While working, the user can also hang outer clothing on an included hook in case the temperature changes in the vehicle. For protection of personal belongings of the mailman, there is a hidden storage box located under the driver's seat.
