- PostHybrid Turbocharging: Ett sätt att få bättre motoreffekt och återvinna motorkraft(2020) Abrahamsson, Patrik; Edin, Max; Friberg, Sophie; Löseth, Ola; Narup, Carl; Rahi, Simon; Chalmers tekniska högskola / Institutionen för mekanik och maritima vetenskaper; Andersson, Sven B; Sedarsky, DavidThis report is a bachelor's thesis for the program Mechanical Engineering at Chalmers University of Technology. The aim of the study was to analyse the advantages of different types of turbochar- gers, more specifically to see the advantages or disadvantages of hybrid turbochargers. Simulations were carried out using the engine simulation software GT-POWER. The simulations were based on a four-cylinder engine designed by GT-POWER to ensure comparable results. Multiple simulations were done using either a single or sequential turbocharger configuration for either a conventional or a hybrid turbocharger. The simulations produced values for the torque, power, BMEP, BSFC and volumetric efficiency for each of the turbocharger configurations. The results were later com- pared to each other as well as the naturally aspirated engine. The results showed that all models using any type of turbocharger performed more efficiently for all tested characteristics. Out of the turbocharged engines the sequential hybrid turbocharger was the prominent choice. This can be attributed to the car industries natural shift towards an environmentally friendly future as well as the effect the sequential turbo charger had on the engine characteristics
